The Romanian Football Federation is organizing today, July 17, 2024, from 2:00 p.m., almost two and a half weeks before the start of the new season, the draw to determine the schedule of games for the 2024-2025 regular edition of League 2. The event takes place at The Football House, in the “Ioan Chirilă” hall.
The new Ligue 2 season is scheduled to start on August 3rd, but it is not out of the question to start a day or two earlier, depending on how the TV rights holders decide to schedule the matches they will televise.
In the 2024-2025 season of the League 2 championship, 22 teams will play instead of 20, as was the case in the last seven editions, according to a decision taken on July 13, 2023 by the FRF Executive Committee.
The drawn number of teams, on the basis of which the schedule is determined:
CS Mioveni – because they play in the same stadium as CFC Argeș,
FC Argeș champions – because they play in the same stadium as CS Mioveni,
AFC Campulung Muscel – requested to debut with an away game

The 2024-2025 League 2 season has, for the first time, 22 teams
League 2, 2024-2025 edition, one in which 22 teams will participate for the first timewill be contested in two phases, as follows:
- the first phase of the competition will consist of a regular season, in which all 22 teams will participate and in which each will play each other only once, with a total of 21 stages.
- the second phase of the competition will consist of a play-off and a play-out, in which the teams will be distributed based on the final ranking of the regular season and in which they will enter with all the points accumulated until then.
In the play-off the top six teams will participate, and the games will be played round-trip, thus resulting in 10 more matches for each team. At the end of the play-off, the first two places will advance directly to League 1, while the 3rd and 4th place holders will play a play-off match with the 8th and 7th places from the SuperLiga play-out, according to the following scheme:
- 3rd place in League 2 against 8th place in the SuperLiga play-out
- 4th place in League 2 against 7th place in the SuperLiga play-out
In the play-out the remaining 16 teams will participate, divided into two groups, A and B, with eight teams each. The teams ranked at the end of the regular season in the 7th, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 19th and 22nd places will play in group A, and the teams in the 8th, 9th, 12th, 13th, 16th, 17th places will play in group B. 20 and 21.
The participants in each group will play each other only once, resulting in a schedule of seven stages and seven matches for each team.
The teams ranked 7th and 8th from each group of the play-out will be directly relegated, while the 6th place holders from each group will play a play-off match in a double leg to stay in League 2. The host team in the round leg a the team from group A will be in the bracket.
If teams withdraw during the regular season, the number of relegations will decrease accordingly, but the division into the two groups will be done in the same way, considering the places of the withdrawn teams as the last.

- They were relegated from SuperLigă, they played in the League 2 play-offs, they played in the League 2 play-out, they promoted from League 3.
- All teams have met the minimum conditions for participation in the new League 2 season, apart from FC Voluntari, FCU Craiova, CS Mioveni, FK Miercurea Ciuc, Chindia Târgovişte and Champions FC Argeş, who they applied and even got the first league license.
- Compared to last season, promoted to League 1 – Unirea Slobozia and Gloria Buzău, as well as relegated to League 3 – Progresul Spartac, CSM Alexandria, CS Tunari and Unirea Dej will be missing from the start.

The procedure for establishing the League 2 regular season schedule
The FRF has also publicly communicated the procedure for establishing the League 2 regular season schedule and you can see it below:
“The procedure for establishing the schedule for the first phase of the competition, i.e. the regular season, will be based on the Berger Table for 22 teams, the number corresponding to each team being determined by drawing lots.
Balls are numbered from 1 to 22 and placed in two separate urns:
- Urn A (home) – red – balls with numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
- Urn B (displacement) – blue – balls with numbers 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22
In accordance with Article 10, para. 4 of the ROAF, which specifies that “if several clubs have their headquarters in the same locality, the program will be drawn up in such a way that the teams of the respective clubs play alternately on their own ground, so that in these localities a program is ensured competitively balanced”, in these situations the following numerical scheme will be used, in which a number from urn A corresponds to a number from urn B, so that the schedules of the two teams do not overlap:

In the current edition of the championship, there is only one situation that can be related to this article from ROAF, in this case the situation of a pair of teams from the same echelon and from the same county, which both play on the same field, namely CS Mioveni and Campionii FC Argeş.
In this case, two balls will be made available in a third urn, one containing a ticket with the letter A – for home and the other a ticket with the letter D – for travel. Depending on the ball chosen, the representative of the first club will then draw a ball from the urn corresponding to A for home or B for away. Depending on the number drawn from the ballot box, the other club from the same locality will be assigned the paired number from the scheme above.
For example: if CS Mioveni draws number 15, Campionii FC Argeș will receive number 4, or if CS Mioveni draws number 10, Campionii FC Argeș will receive number 21.
After the end of this stage of the target, the teams that have made requests to play the first game away or at home will follow in line. Here we have a request to play away from AFC Câmpulung-Muscel 2022. If the drawn number has already been allocated to one of the teams in the above mentioned pairs, a new ball will be drawn.
After drawing the numbers from the Berger Table for the teams from the same locality and those with travel and home requests, all the remaining balls will then be mixed in one urn and drawn in the order of the ranking of the previous championship, the newly promoted first, then the play-off teams, followed by the play-out teams, each team receiving a number.
If the drawn number has already been assigned to a team, a new ball will be drawn.
The teams are then entered in the table with the championship stages.”
