The German manufacturer Leica is enriching its range of high-end video projectors with the Cine Play 1, a compact model which combines laser technology and premium image quality. This newcomer to the home projection market wants to stand out through its versatility and technical performance.
After offering the Leica Cine 1, an ultra short throw video projector, the German brand offers a new projector but this time more compact and installed on a swing with swivel base for free tilting, like the C2, C2 Pro or C2 Ultra from Hisense or the Xgimi Horizon S Max and Horizon S Pro as well as the JMGO N1S Ultra and the separate option of the Dangbei Mars Pro 2.
Sophisticated imaging technology
The Cine Play 1 features triple RGB laser technology offering a lifespan of up to 25,000 hours, depending on the brand. Its brightness of 3000 ANSI Lumens, again according to Leica, allows clear projections even in a lit environment. The Leica Summicron zoom lens ensures consistent 4K image quality, with display dimensions varying from 65 to 300 inches.

What are the best video projectors in 2024? Our selection
The Cine Play 1 is equipped with proprietary LIO (Leica Image Optimization) image processing technology. This optimizes color rendering and contrast using specific algorithms. It relies on a 0.47-inch DMD chip, like its competitors, with DLP processing and XPR technology to simulate an image with Ultra HD definition. Note the compatibility with HLG, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision video formats. It supports 3D content and has the MEMC function for maximum fluidity. Leica announces a native contrast ratio of 1500:1, which is particularly high.
On the audio side, we can count on the presence of two speakers of 15W each. The system is compatible with the DTS Virtual:X format, which produces the most immersive sound.
When it comes to connectivity, the device stands out with its numerous connection options. Apple Airplay, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6 compatible, it also has HDMI 2.1, USB 3.0 and LAN ports. The Cine Play 1 is powered by the VIDAA U7.6 operating system (present on all Hisense brand video devices). It provides access to the main streaming platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video, Apple TV+ or Disney+, for example and also allows the download of other applications.
The projector supports a wide range of media formats, from video files (MP4, MKV, AVI) to audio (FLAC, MP3) and images (JPEG, PNG). It can be controlled by voice. For video games, the brand communicates a display delay time of only 12 ms (Full HD at 120 frames per second).
Design and practicality
The Leica Cine Play 1 adopts a minimalist Bauhaus-inspired design, with an aluminum construction and a glass front. Its dimensions are 242 x 261 x 229 mm, more or less the same size as the Hisense C2, JMGO N1S Ultra or Xgimi Horizon S Max or Horizon S Pro. However, its weight is greater since the brand announces 6.7 kg.
An optional stand, sold separately for 395 euros, cleverly integrates the power supply without visible cable. This support allows you to optimize the positioning of the projector.
Leica announces that it is particularly quiet, offering only 29 dB at a distance of 1 meter with, in addition, a discreet mode (which certainly does not offer the highest brightness).
Availability and price of the Leica Cine Play 1 video projector
A high-end model, the new Leica Cine Play 1 video projector will very soon be available for a price of 3,500 euros in the Leica distribution network (physical and online stores) as well as at certain authorized resellers such as son-video.com.
