PARIS OLYMPICS – After a completely crazy match in the afternoon in Saint-Étienne, during which Morocco won against Argentina after a two-hour interruption, the French football team began its Olympic tournament at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, against the United States, this Wednesday, July 24.

Having been battered for a long time, Thierry Henry’s Les Bleus finally won 3-0 in this first match, with two superb goals scored from outside the area: the first by captain Alexandre Lacazette with a cross shot from 25 metres out in the 61st minute; the second by Michael Olise, almost from the same place, with a curling shot with his left foot in the 69th minute.

The third goal was scored with a header from a corner by Sevilla FC defender Loïc Badé in the 85th minute.

During this match, the Americans could have opened the score in the 59th minute with a powerful strike from Djordje Mihailovic that hit the crossbar. Five minutes later, John Tolkin saw his header hit the post, before the ball was cleared by the Blues’ defense.

In the next match on Saturday, France will play against Guinea, then on Tuesday against New Zealand, again at the Stade Vélodrome.

For these home Games, the Blues dream of imitating their glorious elders of 1984, the first and only French Olympic football champions, in Los Angeles. Daniel Xuereb and his teammates then succeeded in the feat of making football exist during an Olympiad.
