Our environment is not a static background to our lives, but gives us the opportunity for its appropriate design to inspire us, cheer us up, or even surprise us. We can also enjoy it – so don’t miss the opportunity to “enchant” our everyday life!
Why does a colorful decoration, confetti rain or fireworks cheer us up on occasion? Why do we feel better after beautifying our living environment, or seeing flowers and objects in different, cheerful colors placed at home or at our workplace? Ordinary, small, sometimes surprising things can also make us happy, if we shape the place where we live or spend our free time.
Not necessarily therefore, we need to make profound changes in order to feel better. Our immediate environment and the objects around us can help us feel better in everyday life. We can create the conditions for this in our living rooms, our kitchen, our office or even in our street, on our balcony, in our small garden and elsewhere to create a source of joy and energy, showing the way to openness.
Colors and lights give energy
The colors around us radiate energy and can represent a resource. The colors of nature are definitely at the forefront: e.g. the yellow shades of the sunset, the color scale of the rainbow, the beneficial effects of a green field or various plants are all included.
But nature “smuggled” into closed spaces, or objects used in the summer (e.g. beach equipment, colored balls, hats), colorful clothes, but even brightly colored nails have this quality. Among other things, light can also be a source of joy. It can come from lighting or the lighting of larger surfaces (walls, ground, furniture, work surfaces…) (which is the light flux falling on the surface), as the various bright colors can be reflected and have a stimulating effect. Nowadays, this principle is used e.g. in hospitals, schools, nursing homes…

The energy of colors means vitality to us, while its electromagnetic vibrations affect our mood and affect our feelings. They signal to us that our environment is alive and help maintain a sense of well-being. Several studies have shown that individuals those who work in offices and workplaces with well-lit, colorful furniture and decorations are more alert, lively, and quick-witted, like those who spend their days in monotonous, dark places. Some research has also revealed that appropriate, stronger light effects encourage greater performance, and they put me in a better mood. Moreover, according to some observations, patients cared for in brighter rooms recover faster or take less painkillers.
Finding nature and the feeling of freedom
In narrow, enclosed spaces or in clothes that are too tight, we feel like we are suffocating, and disorder oppresses us… We need (ordered) space, to the green of nature and the blue of the sky, so that we feel freer and happier. Let’s give preference to greenery in our homes too, place flowers (can even be artificial flowers), let’s display pictures depicting nature, our curtains should preferably have flower patterns… If you live in a city, plant flowers on the balcony or around the trees in front of your house. – wherever possible, let’s steal nature.

Let’s put things in order and we will find harmony
Good advice: group the objects according to their color, material, shape, size. Eliminate e.g. the jumble of postcards, photographs, magazines, let’s organize them. The clothes put them on hangers in the closet according to their color, put the shoes in a neat row and put them in their place, roll up the socks with a pair, etc.
Let’s follow the continuity of colors from room to room, e.g. if there is yellowish wallpaper in one, there should be yellow-toned cushions in the other, or such carpets in the third, etc. Being connected means consistency, which is reassuring. But don’t be obsessed, harmony often lies in “perfect imperfection”!

Sorting, throwing away, arranging objects frees them from excess, which creates a feeling of calmness and harmony (including, for example, symmetrical placement) – in fact, it can even bring satisfaction. In addition, the more complex and different the environment creates, the more we need similarity and order. A few years ago, English researchers realized that we involuntarily associate symmetrical (harmonic) shapes with positive words/emotions such as “joy”, “heavenly states” or “heaven”, and asymmetry or chance and uncertainty with words such as “disaster”, “misfortune”, “bad”, “death”. We do well to have surprises in store for ourselves and those around us on a daily basis – at home, at work, in our relationship… For example, don’t throw away a damaged object, but complement it and transform it; replace a broken plate with a different pattern, etc. and surprise ourselves and others with it. It is also recommended that e.g. put an adhesive label with a “surprise message” on the pillow of our partner, child, close relative or even on the computer of a colleague or friend. Transform clothes and surprise others with it; or e.g. repaint the inside of the wardrobe or built-in wardrobe with a fun, bright color that makes you feel good every time you open it.

Repetition, routine and predictability have their advantages (less stress), but also their disadvantages (less excitement and fun, more boredom). Unpredictability and fantasy are good without stepping out of our comfort zone, it helps us to enchant and look at the world with different eyes…
