LG UltraGear 32GS95UE: a truly universal monitor

Work, evening games or esports: according to the manufacturer’s promise, the LG OLED display will hold its own in all areas.

Introduction, external

The UltraGear series includes LG’s displays intended for gamers, and our test subject, the 32GS95UE monitor, is primarily aimed at this community, but its knowledge is large enough to be suitable for professional work and competitive use, as well as esports, in addition to general gaming. One of the special features of this model is the so-called VESA Dual Mode (in addition, it is the first monitor in the world that has this certificate), which means that it can be used not only as a 4K resolution, 240 Hz refreshable display, but also as a Full HD, It can also be used as a 480 Hz monitor. Its specification list ticks almost everything that we can expect from a high-end device today: OLED, HDR, 4K, high refresh rate, G-Sync, and we could list the features; let’s see what kind of experience this almost half a million HUF screen offers on our table!

Design

The 32GS95UE is a 4K resolution OLED display from the top category, and this can also be felt on the outside: it is characterized by a premium choice of materials, narrow bezels and a massive stand. The latter unit consists of a wide, heavy and stable base, as well as a corresponding holder with similar properties, to which the screen is fixed using a simple hook-and-loop method, without screws. The panel can thus be tilted, rotated, adjusted in height, and even has a pivot mode, which immediately indicates that the needs of professionals working on creative tasks and publications are not forgotten.

A designer hole with a purple frame on the stand allows cables to be routed, which can run into the connection line arranged below. It has two HDMI, a DisplayPort, a combined four-pin 3.5 mm jack and a two-outlet USB 3.0 port. The latter is a bit disappointing, because if we already have so many services to please those looking for a working device, then a solution based on a Type-C interface, providing both USB-PD charging, image and data transfer, and enabling the simple docking of notebooks, came in really handy would have been, but we would also have been happy with a USB socket placed on one or two sides to facilitate the connection of external drives. But these are not there, it seems that LG focused primarily on the image input.

The panel’s coating is matte, has little tendency to reflect or collect fingerprints. The stand can be easily moved and adjusted with one hand, while the heavy base stands stable on the table, you don’t have the feeling that it’s about to fall if you don’t hold it with two hands.

A joystick and a button are available as controls – the latter can be used to activate Dual Mode. The joystick is the main control device, it is used to enter and move through the menu, change settings, and it also serves as an off and on button.

As it is a device intended for gamers, LG could not leave out RGB lights with the imaginative name of Hexagon Lightning, which are located on the back and thus primarily illuminate the wall.
