LIDL’S SOLAR POWER PLANT STARTED OPERATION IN LAPOV

A solar power plant consisting of 10,000 square meters of solar panels, with a total power of 999.78 kWp (kilowatt-peak), started operating in Lidl’s logistics center in Lapovo. As much as 35-37% of the electricity, which is necessary for the regular functioning of Lidl’s logistics center in Lapovo, is now generated through these solar panels. The use of renewable resources in the production of electricity is an important part of Lidl’s sustainable business strategy, primarily in efforts to reduce climate change, therefore the company opts for, among other things, the use of solar panels in its construction projects.

Lidl’s logistics center in Lapovo, as an example of “green” construction, was also awarded the prestigious LEED Platinum certificate, as a confirmation of the company’s efforts, which during the entire process of planning, construction and use of the facility takes into account various impacts on the environment. Water-saving systems have also been introduced, which use rainwater as technical water, while LED lighting with the possibility of dimming is used for lighting for additional energy savings, with the maximum possible use of natural lighting that provides additional comfort to employees.

The roofs of four Lidl stores are also covered by installed solar power plants, which are located in Negotin, Senta, Prokuplje and the Novi Sad settlement Liman. The power of each of these solar power plants is 160kWp, produced by 350 high-quality solar panels each. In this way, savings of electricity drawn from the network will be ensured by 35% compared to the total monthly consumption of one facility. In addition, in the design and construction of stores, the most modern and sustainable materials are used, where special attention is paid to the energy efficiency of the buildings.

In addition to saving significant amounts of energy, the company Lidl Serbia exclusively uses energy that comes from renewable sources in all its stores, the administrative building and two logistics centers. By signing the “ZelEPS” contract with the Electric Power Company of Serbia on May 1, 2021, Lidl became the first retail discount chain in the country to be fully supplied with green energy.
