Madrid still has rental scooters on its streets. Two of the three concessionaire companies, Lime and Dott, have decided to ignore the City Council’s requirement that forced them to withdraw and continue operating their services in the capital.
The decree revoking their permits, signed more than two weeks ago, forced the end of rentals on the streets of the capital from this Friday, October 25. But this newspaper has verified that both Lime and Dott continue to show in their respective applications the possibility of taking their devices, which have not been removed from the streets of Madrid.
The operators Lime, Dott and TIER have had 15 business days to withdraw the vehicles. The third has done so but the first two are now exposed to the Municipal Police doing it, with possible sanctions of up to 1,500 euros per device for violating the Sustainable Mobility Ordinance.
This possibility was recalled by the Mobility delegate, Borja Carabante, this Friday with a publication on social networks.
José Luis Martínez-Almeida announced in early September that they would revoke all permits granted for scooters deployed by private companies. In the case of the last two companies affected, which today are part of the same business group after a merger, their top manager warned in statements to Somos Madrid that they will go to court if the council does not open negotiations.
Both Lime and Dott operate in Madrid thanks to having won a municipal competition in 2023 to each deploy 2,000 scooters in the city through a public concession, for which they did not pay any amount to the council. Last September, the Mobility area announced its revocation due to non-compliance with the conditions agreed with the council.
