Linux apps on Android mobile? A possible reality soon thanks to Google!

  • Today’s mobile phones have enough power to run desktop applications
  • They are limited only by a system that is not compatible with them
  • Google has started developing a Terminal with the ability to run the Debian Linux distribution

Today’s modern phones have performance that routinely exceeds that of ordinary computers. The resolution and size of displays is also increasing, and external displays and other peripherals are also supported. That’s why it’s a shame that we can’t run applications intended for computers on them. Google thought it needed to change and started developing the Terminal app for Android with full Linux support.

It comes from the forest. It will be installed into the Terminal application environment Debian distribution image. The terminal then connects to it via a local address such as k virtual machine. It is possible to partially break it already, but Google is working on a more user-friendly solution. Additionally, the current implementation is more or less unofficial and requires a few hacks in the developer settings to at least make it work.

Android Linux Terminal

Google released updatein the description of which there is a mention of merging Linux Installer with Terminal. If you are interested in what it will look like, check out the video on the server Android Authority. Interestingly, this feature is being tested on tablets and phones, not just Chromebooks for which it was originally intended. Does this mean that we could eventually run Gimp on mobile?

Samsung, which was developing, tried something similar some time ago Linux pro Dex. Unfortunately, he did not finish the project and ended it while it was still in the beta version.

Would you use Linux on a mobile phone?
