The anti-mine ship and the patrol boat left on Wednesday.
Lithuanian ships will carry out patrolling and surveillance tasks, closely cooperate with NATO allied forces and use modern technologies to detect and prevent possible threats in time, the Lithuanian Armed Forces said in a statement.
The underwater robot of the anti-mine ship will be used to monitor the Baltic Sea bed.
It has already been announced that at the meeting of the leaders of the NATO countries on the Baltic Sea coast in Helsinki on Tuesday, Marks Rite, the Secretary General of the Alliance, announced that NATO is starting a new mission to protect the underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea.
The mission, dubbed “Baltic Sentry,” will involve a variety of assets, including warships, maritime patrol aircraft and a small naval fleet of unmanned aerial vehicles to “ensure enhanced surveillance and deterrence,” Rite said.
The meeting in Helsinki took place after several cases of damage to electricity and communication cables in the Baltic Sea, for which Russia is suspected.
