Lokrum is a popular destination and is easily accessible from Dubrovnik. Tickets are sold in the old port of Porporela in Dubrovnik, and a round-trip boat trip for an adult costs a good 20 euros.

Ships from the harbor located in the old town now depart every half hour during the summer, and the 15-minute boat trip is completed in an instant while looking at the scenery and admiring the clear water.

You can also get to the island by kayak or, for example, by jet ski. The shortest distance from the mainland to the island is about a kilometer, but the distance between the ports is about three and a half kilometers.

Lokrum’s beaches and swimming spots

There are plenty of good swimming spots on the island of Lokrum, but you shouldn’t expect sandy beaches: the beaches are mostly pebble or rocky beaches. The island is a great place to sunbathe, swim and otherwise just enjoy a warm summer day in the Adriatic Sea.

The services at the swimming spots are on point: there are toilets, showers and on the rocks even ladders for descending into the water. The best-equipped swimming spots attract visitors, but despite that, there is guaranteed to be room for one more towel and a sun worshiper.

If you avoid the crowds and long for a private moment in peace under the sun, you should look for your own quiet beach or rock spot on the island. Most swimmers stay at the swimming spots located a short walk from the harbor, so walking to the other side of the island gives you a good chance of finding quiet beaches.

Some of the swimming spots on Lokrum Island are intended for nudists, so when looking for a suitable beach, you should be aware that not all swimmers are necessarily wearing swimwear.

Experience the botanical garden and the ruins

In addition to jogging and swimming on the beach, Lokrum Island also offers other interesting things to do. There is plenty of vegetation around the island, and the most common trees in Lokrum are pine, cypress and olive.

In addition to them, there is also a botanical garden planted in the 19th century on the island, whose huge selection of plants is worth exploring at your leisure. Among the plants, you can also spot peacocks, which were brought to the island about a hundred years ago.

Those interested in architecture and history on the island of Lokrum will also be delighted by the ruins of the medieval Benedictine monastery, which are an interesting destination for anyone. The beautiful ruins rise in the middle of a dense forest, which creates the image of a fairytale castle rising in the middle of the forest.
