If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s somewhat reminiscent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Lollipop Chainsaw sold more than a million copies and became a cult classic for many. I have fond memories of playing this game when it came out, much to the chagrin of my ex. It was a weekend filled with enjoyment, while the protagonist, Juliet Starlingleft its mark. Twelve years later, I have the chance to feel that magic again.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP started as a complete remake of the original. However, over time it became a remaster, but my excitement did not subside. All I wanted was to go back to San Romero High School. I needed to prove to myself that nostalgia wasn’t blinding me, and after a seven-hour marathon to the finish line, I have my thoughts.

What I remember from the game Lollipop Chainsaw is gameplay. While it’s basically a standard hack-and-slash game full of gore and violence, there are also rainbows. This is a game about Julietto a girl who likes sweet things. Amid its brutality, you’ll get glitter and sparkling effects. Combining blows and killing a group of zombies switches to a special mode called sparkle hunting. Yes, switching to this mode can get annoying because it happens so often, but you get back into the action quickly – I didn’t feel like it hindered the combat dynamics.
I like how the movements are Juliet related to her role as a cheerleader. He punches with his Pom-poms, doing circles while slicing and dicing his enemies with a chainsaw. The commitment to her identity and who she is is visible. We won’t see how Juliet she suddenly becomes a firearms expert – she’s just a high school student. In that respect, I liked her dose of realism. He uses what he has in his arsenal. However, in the beginning, her movements were a little stiff, which is fixed once you unlock new combos.

However, the zombies and NPCs haven’t been given the same attention, so the textures seem blurry and don’t convey the sense of realism the game is trying to achieve.
Performance on PS5 have confused me. The game struggles to maintain 60fps, although the console can easily reach that level. I hope the future furnace will bring improvements.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is a solid port with improvements, retaining the madness and fun that made the original a cult hit.
