Loneliness brings nightmares at night

Loneliness doesn’t just affect your physical and mental health during the day, it also affects your sleep, according to a new study by a team of researchers in the United States.

The study suggests that people who experience loneliness have a higher frequency of nightmares, which may be the result of additional stress caused by the lack of strong social ties.

The researchers reanalyzed data from a previous study and found a correlation between loneliness and nightmare frequency, with stress acting as a mediating factor.

A second set of data, obtained from another group of participants, showed that loneliness affects both the intensity of nightmares and their frequency.

Although the study does not establish a direct causal relationship, the researchers suggest that these findings fit the evolutionary theory that loneliness is a warning signal that the body is lacking an essential element, social support.

Colin Hessem, a communication specialist at Oregon State University, believes that interpersonal relationships are a basic human need, and the lack of them affects physical and mental health.
