Long jumper Batz makes a strong debut

Long jumper Simon Batz took a strong sixth place at the next air show of the new and old Olympic champion Miltiadis Tendoglou.

In the final in Paris, the 21-year-old from Mannheim flew 8.07 m on his Olympic debut, the podium was 27 centimetres away.

Behind the Greek world and European champion (8.48), silver went to vice world champion Wayne Pinnock (Jamaica/8.36). Bronze went to the Italian European Championship runner-up Mattia Furlani (8.34).

In June, Tendoglou cleared 8.65 m in a spectacular competition, just 30 centimetres below the 33-year-old world record held by American Mike Powell. He thus secured his third European Championship title in a row.
