At the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Trade Cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan, which was held in Baku, it was said that the energy cooperation between the two countries has a long-term character in terms of the security of natural gas supply.
On that occasion, Stefan Srbljanović, State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy, said that Azerbaijani gas is already recognized as part of the solution for the diversification of gas supply sources in Europe, and thanks to the new gas interconnections, it becomes part of the solution for greater energy security in Serbia and the region.
“We have recognized Azerbaijan as one of the main partners on the path to diversification of supply sources,” said the wood secretary.
At the end of the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria interconnector, the delivery of up to 400 million cubic meters of gas per year from Azerbaijan until 2026 was agreed in Baku, Srbljanović said, adding that after that it could be three times larger.
“Also, we leased 300 million cubic meters of gas per year at the LNG terminal in Greece,” he said.
Srbljanović added that the construction of gas interconnections and better connections with neighbors opens space for Serbia to improve not only its energy security, but also to be a transit country through which Azerbaijani gas will reach other countries in the region and the EU.
