Referring to the current situation in the United States of America, where Joe Biden gave way to Kamala Harris in the race for the White House, USR president Elena Lasconi said on Monday, July 22, that at any time a woman can save the situation. Lasconi believes, however, that Harris has “a tough mission” against Donald Trump.
“Look how a woman can save a situation, even if it’s the United States of America,” Elena Lasconi said on Monday evening, July 22, at Digi 24, commenting on the situation in the United States and the support of Kamala Harris by the president Joe Biden.
On the other hand, the President of USR thanked the American President Joe Biden for everything he did for Romania during his mandate and said that she believes that the Strategic Partnership with the USA will continue, regardless of who will be at Controceni and at the White House.
“I would like to thank President Joe Biden for everything he has done in these 4 years for Romania. Think about when the conflict in Ukraine started. Basically, Joe Biden was very close to Ukraine and sent troops and weapons, both in Romania and in Poland (…) It is very important that we know that we are not alone and that we also have the Strategic Partnership with the United States. It is very good to be in a partnership with the United States and it is not just empty words Lasconi added.
She believes that the American vice-president Kamala Harris, who could be supported by her party to run in the presidential elections, “has a difficult mission”.
“He simply said “I’m an American and I think that’s enough”. I mean if it doesn’t matter what a man does, if his deeds don’t matter and the color of his skin matters or who his mother or father was, I think we have a problem, I think we have to avoid putting labels on people because it’s dangerous. And I see that this happens very often and very easily, especially on social networks, and it seems sad to me,” said Elena Lasconi.
She believes that for the future of Romania it does not matter much who will win the elections in Romania and the USA.
“For Romania, given the Strategic Partnership with the United States, I think it doesn’t matter who will be in Cotroceni and the White House, because it is moving forward. I don’t think it’s that important. But, as the president of Romania, I – I would like to work with as many women as possible in the leadership of the states, both from Europe and from the United States of America. I would like that,” Lasconi said.
Joe Biden announced, on Sunday evening, July 21, that he is giving up the campaign for re-election and is supporting Kamala Harris.
