lots of changes for motorists!

Like the start of the school year in September, the month of October will also have its share of new features for motorists, starting with those who drive and park in the Paris region.

October 2024 is upon us, and in addition to the plummeting temperatures that began in September and in the absence of an Indian summer which never really arrived, motorists will have the right, as on 1is last September, to their small batch of new products concocted, this month, mainly by the Paris town hall.

The new features in question should not particularly please Parisians, but also non-Parisians since there will be something new on the ring road, a transitional axis for many Ile-de-France residents.

Part of the ring road at 50 km/h from Tuesday

Despite everything we have read recently, and in particular the different solutions which could hinder a passage at 50 km/h of the Paris ring road, it is good from this Tuesday 1is October, that 13 friends of the large ring which circles the capital will be affected by this change in maximum authorized speed. From tomorrow, 12 km in total will be limited to 50 km/h, before a change to this speed on the entire ring road on October 10. The objective cited by Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, is to reduce noise and pollution which would affect 550,000 people living nearby.
The ring road thus continues to lower its speed, which was 90 km/h in 1973, the year of its launch, then which increased to 80 km/h in 1993. 21 years later, the maximum speed was lowered to 70 km/h, then 50 km/h in this 1is October 2024. The “good news” is that the radars have not yet been recalibrated. As a result, there will be a sort of gray period while you go from 71 to 51 km/h. Probably a matter of a few days.

Parking with an SUV in Paris will cost (much) more

It is also on this date that motorists will be able to experience the new on-street parking prices with their SUV. And it is clear that they may not come back and will prefer underground car parks.
After a highly commented vote, where only 5.6% of Parisians expressed their opinion, the City of Paris has decided to triple the price of parking for SUVs.
Remember that this increase is affected by “visitors”specifies the Paris town hall, “i.e. users who do not have a specific parking right: residential, professional, low-emission vehicle or Handi’Stat”. And how much will it cost you if you want to park your SUV in Paris without living there?
This increase in prices is based on weight criteria. This includes thermal or hybrid SUVs weighing more than 1,600 kg, as well as electric SUVs weighing more than 2,000 kg. The new prices will vary depending on the areas, going from 6 to 18 euros per hour from 1is au 11th district, and from 4 to 12 euros from 12th au 20th.

The prices will be progressive and will simply become indigestible. At least more than they already were. For example, an SUV that parks more than 6 hours on the road in the 5th district will have to pay an amount of 225 euros.
