What nobody expects is to have an accident in front of all those people, and even less so just a few metres from the start of the famous Goodwood hill climb. This is what happened to the driver who took the wheel of the very expensive Lotus Evija X, the most radical variant of the Lotus Evija.

And most of them consider that the best way to present their most exciting new products is by pushing their limits on the hill climb, a short timed section where it is possible to drive anything in front of all the fans.
The Lotus Evija X was set to be one of the stars of the 2024 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This electric hypercar is an even more beastly evolution of the production Evija focused on track use and its sole objective is to demonstrate the potential that the Evija can have. 2,000 hp electric hypercar.
He already tried to beat the clock at the Nürburgring circuit, but so far he has not been able to take the record from the Volkswagen ID.R (the Briton was 19 seconds slower than the German), although it is the third fastest car on the German track. While he prepares his return to the Green Hell, he has travelled to the Goodwood Festival of Speed to show off in front of the most select public, but it has not gone well.
A few meters after taking the start on the climb to the hill, the pilot who was at the controls lost control and ended up crashing into the straw protection located on the sides of the track.
A priori, the Evija X has everything necessary to make one of those starts that will take your breath away: 2,000 hp, spectacular aerodynamics, slick tires and, in theory, a electronics perfectly tuned to transmit such strength to the asphalt, but something went wrong. Everything points to some error in the electronics because the rear wheels took on too much torque, judging by the white smoke they left behind. This caused the Evija X to crash in a few metres and a couple of seconds.
The damage to the car does not seem excessively serious and the driver came out of the accident completely unscathed, but the damage to Lotus’ image is undeniable. What was intended to be a show of strength in front of a few potential customers willing to spend the money 2.1 million euros which will cost when it goes into production, ended up being the opposite.
