“Love Sucks” now in advance in the media library: “Twilight” in Frankfurt

In the dark ZDF series “Love Sucks,” a young woman falls in love with a pretty vampire. Of course that can’t go well.

Things get off to a scary start: Little Zelda wakes up in the car in the middle of the night in the parking lot of a motorway service station. She goes looking for her mother and sees her being attacked and killed by a vampire behind a truck. After this dark flashback, the new ZDF series “Love Sucks” starts in present-day Frankfurt am Main. The eight episodes will be available from Friday Media library available.

Zelda (Havana Joy) now works as a boxer at the fair. One evening she comes face to face with Ben von Greifenstein (Damian Hardung) in the ring, with whom she falls head over heels in love. Zelda follows the young man to a party at his family’s estate. But it turns out to be a bloodthirsty dinner party for the vampires present – and a fatal death occurs.

It becomes clear relatively quickly that handsome Ben turns out to be a bloodsucker. Ben’s unscrupulous brother Theo (Rick Okon) is introduced as the villain. Zelda’s father and brother are vampire hunters, which puts additional strain on the newlyweds.

“Love Sucks” follows in the footsteps of “Twilight”

The fact that vampires fall madly in love with mortals is of course nothing new. The schmonzette “Twilight” is still one of the most successful novel and film series today. “Love Sucks” doesn’t offer much that’s new in terms of content, but visually it’s surprisingly dark for a ZDF series. Maybe that’s why it’s not broadcast in the main program, but in the media library and, in keeping with Halloween, also on ZDFneo.

The series gains depth primarily through some flashbacks, some of which go back centuries, to shed light on the lives of the undead. Ben’s conflict is also made clear again and again, because the introverted vampire suffers the most from his eternal life. “I am a monster. I will destroy anyone who gets too close to me.”

Next role for “Maxton Hall” star

Lead actor Hardung is currently experiencing a real high. The Cologne native, who became known as a teenager through the Vox series “The Red Ribbon Club,” was last seen as an arrogant playboy in the globally successful Amazon youth series “Maxton Hall” and is currently appearing in the RTL+ comedy “Softies.” in front of the camera.

Acting student Havana Joy plays her first major role at his side. The film was shot in Frankfurt am Main, the capital of bankers, who some like to call bloodsuckers.

“Love Sucks” is a refreshingly courageous (and bloody) production for a public broadcaster and was awarded the Bernd Burgemeister Television Prize at the Munich Film Festival.

“Love Sucks” will be available in the ZDF media library from October 11th. The series can be seen linearly on October 31st (three episodes) and November 1st (three episodes) and November 2nd (two episodes) from 8:15 p.m. on ZDFneo.
