Low-hanging apples are no longer enough, we need data

When starting ESG activities, low-hanging apples are often picked. These are activities that do not require large amounts of data collection. But how to proceed when simple solutions have been implemented?

Kristjan Peäske, manager of the Lee and Lore restaurants, said that in the restaurants they collect data on, for example, energy use and waste generation. This autumn, however, they will take a closer look at data collection.

According to Astri Group council member Silver Hage, energy use is one area where data helps to make smart decisions. He gave an example that if ten years ago they had built more solar parks in shopping centers, they would now be able to produce many times more electricity themselves.

In addition, they talked about how to keep their employees when the working hours do not last from Monday to Friday from nine to five. Anneli Turkin, financial manager of Tallinn Airport, said that in aviation, work will continue around the clock, but the employees must be compensated for this. Nordic Milk’s sustainable development manager Katrin Tamm noted that red days are not important in the dairy industry either, but young people entering the labor market do not want to work at night and on days off. Entrepreneurs have to adapt to it, said Tamm.

KPMG Baltics ESG services manager and expert Siim Kannistu, Nordic Milk sustainable development manager Katrin Tamm, Tallinn Airport CFO Anneli Turkin, Astri Group council member Silver Hage and founder of Lee and Lore Bistro restaurants Kristjan Peäske talked about what facilitates and hinders the fulfillment of ESG goals. .

The show was recorded at the ESG Practitioners Annual Conference at the end of May 2024. The questions were asked by Äripäiv journalist Laura Saks.
