Since Vincent Kompany has been on the sidelines at FC Bayern, the German record champions’ football has become significantly more attractive. In terms of results, however, the Munich team is still struggling with fluctuations. The violent 4-1 defeat in the Champions League at FC Barcelona in particular had an impact. Legendary goalscorer Luca Toni was also very disappointed with the most recent appearance in the premier class.
“They played really badly and made a lot of mistakes,” said the Italian on the sidelines of the EA7 World Legends Padel Tour in Miami.
In Barcelona, FC Bayern were repeatedly overrun, and the defense looked quite old several times against three-man Raphinha and Co. Afterwards, a debate broke out about the team’s tactical route.
“But Bavaria is Bavaria, and defeats give rise to dissatisfaction there, which makes them come back strong again and again,” Luca Toni gave hope to his old love.
Even more: “It is a club that is destined to win both the Bundesliga and the Club World Cup.”
Toni, now 47 years old, won the double twice with FC Bayern between 2007 and 2010. He still thinks fondly of his time on Säbener Straße today.
“Bayern Munich showed me what it means to play for a big club and be obliged to win. I really liked that feeling of having to win at all costs,” emphasized the 2006 world champion.
Toni: Kompany brought “a lot of enthusiasm” to FC Bayern
Toni has even maintained a direct line to his former club. He still has a close friendship with FCB physio Gianni Bianchi.
So he found out first-hand how the new coach was doing. “A physiotherapist who works at Bayern, with whom I am still in good contact, told me that Vincent Kompany brought a lot of enthusiasm with him,” revealed Toni.
He himself considers the Belgian, who inherited Thomas Tuchel in the summer, to be a “very good coach”.
