Luke Humphries repeats Taylor’s feat

World champion Luke Humphries has won the prestigious World Matchplay.

In the final, the Englishman defeated Michael van Gerwen 18:15, making him only the second player after darts legend Phil Taylor to win the World Championship and the Matchplay in the same calendar year.

In addition, the 29-year-old also pocketed the prize money of 200,000 pounds (just under 238,000 euros).

In the famous Winter Gardens of Blackpool, the two top players fought an exciting but not always high-class duel, which “Cool Hand Luke” decided with the first match dart on the double 20.

The Englishman thus extended his lead in the world rankings. The two German starters Martin Schindler (Strausberg) and Ricardo Pietreczko (Nuremberg) were already eliminated in the first round.

In the women’s event, Beau Greaves had previously defended her World Matchplay title and qualified for the World Championship in December for the third time. In the final, the 20-year-old Englishwoman defeated her compatriot Fallon Sherrock 6:3.
