Lunar – a computer integrated in a folding keyboard

Lunar is a unique mini PC that integrates all its components into a folding keyboard. When folded, it is approximately the size of a larger wallet – 15 x 10 cm and weighs only 800 grams. That’s all for now kickstarter project of the Hong Kong company Ling Long. However, the target amount has already been exceeded several times by contributors, so with a high degree of probability it will go on sale – and soon.

Despite its miniature dimensions, Lunar boasts very decent technical parameters. It is equipped with a powerful AMD Ryzen 7 8840U processor, can have up to 32 GB of RAM and an SSD disk with a capacity of up to 1 TB. This means that it will fully replace even a relatively powerful laptop.

In terms of connectivity, it is also very decently equipped – the basis is wi-fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. It also includes one USB A 3.0 port and two USB-C ports (3.2 and 4.0). Connecting external monitors and peripherals is possible via USB 4.0. In addition, the Lunar also serves as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, but does not have Ethernet.

The battery with a capacity of 60 Wh ensures up to 10 hours of operation during normal administrative work, 6 hours when playing media and about 4 hours when playing games. A bonus is the possibility to charge it with a power of up to 100 W, and of course you can also recharge it from a power bank, which further supports its mobility.

Despite the innovative design, there were concerns about the practical use of the Lunar. Critics point to the need to connect an external display, which can be inconvenient for users who are constantly on the go. Additionally, the compact design can cause heat dissipation issues for more demanding tasks.

The basic version with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD will cost around 595 euros, while the version with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD will cost 722 euros. It could go on sale as early as January next year.
