You can pay up to $2,100 for the wedge-shaped brutalist keyboard.
If you like special mechanical keyboards and don’t mind spending a lot of money on them, you should get acquainted with Serene Industries’ newest top model, the Icebreaker. This wedge-shaped, Brutalist mechanical keyboard is made from a single block of CNC-milled aluminum with replaceable aluminum keycaps and configurable RGB backlighting.
Pre-orders are now available and the starting price is $1,500 for the wired version. The Bluetooth model and the wired version with magnetic hall-effect switches cost $1,600 — roughly the same as a new 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro. The base keyboard is available in two colors: clear and black, but the black version costs an additional $500. Production will begin after pre-orders close on January 28, although the exact delivery time has not yet been announced.
The Icebreaker has a 65% allocation and measures 450 x 44 x 24 mm (approx. 17.7 x 1.7 x 0.9 inches). It’s equipped with a configurable EC11 rotary knob, dual silicone dampers to reduce noise and vibration, and a 4,000mAh battery that Serene Industries says can last up to three months. There’s no word yet on its weight and “full-height” switches, but those interested can already expect premium details like micro-perforations on the keycaps that let RGB lights through, and 1/4-20-inch mounting points. These allow you to connect various accessories, such as stands, monitor arms or even – if you want to be really extravagant – an ax handle.
The design was partly inspired by the Flatiron Building in New York, Serene Industries founder Denis Agarkov revealed. When the Icebreaker was introduced in January 2024, Agarkov told Null Society that his goal was to create a keyboard that bucked current trends and followed a bolder, more challenging form. The result? An expensive but impressive talking point, perfect for collectors or those looking for something truly unique instead of the usual DIY kits.
