In the past few years, Vezessen has written several times about projects organizing hot air balloon trips to the “border of space”, including the company Space Perspective.

The Florida company plans to occasionally lift 6 passengers (and the crew) to a height of 30 km in luxurious conditions, where the sky is dark due to the rarity of the atmosphere, and from where the curvature of the Earth is clearly visible. (Also, according to scientific consensus, the limit of space is the Kármán line at an altitude of 100 km.)

On the six-hour journey with a two-hour ascent and descent, those who pay the $125,000 (44.3 million HUF at today’s exchange rate) ticket can enjoy the view in a lounge environment, munching on snacks prepared by the chef of a Michelin-starred restaurant and sipping fine wines, which is still they get it even in the privacy of the toilet.

Of course, in order for all of this to become a reality, the capsule tied under the hydrogen balloon must operate with 100 percent safety, but it was in this field that the company was able to tick off another milestone. In mid-September, Spaceship Neptune-Excelsior completed a successful test flight after taking off from the Marine Spaceport in St. Petersburg, Florida.

One step closer to luxury tourism 2

During the flight without passengers, the capsule carried the entire six-hour program. The ascent from the MS Voyager ship was flawless – which foreshadows the possibility of launching from “any point” on Earth – the capsule maintained its structural integrity, internal pressure and temperature throughout, and all the necessary positioning and communication systems worked as intended during the landing at sea.

After the successful “empty” test, work can continue with manned tests in 2025, and if there are no further problems, flights for paying passengers can start in 2026. According to Space Perspective, more than 1,800 tickets have already been sold for these.
