Lynx that was run over was saved by surgery – Unusual

Every now and then we are alerted to another lynx hit by a car. This year alone, in Alentejo and Algarve, three specimens have already died, and ten in Spain in those situations.

In France, cases also appear regularly: the latest one happened on a road outside Pratz, close to the Swiss border.

One afternoon at the end of September, a driver came across a lynx seriously injured after being run over; the feline suffered head trauma and a fractured femur.

When the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) was contacted, they explained how to rescue it and then deliver it to the Center Athenas in that Jura region.

The quick intervention gave the young female a chance of survival, which would certainly have succumbed without assistance; She is also the only survivor of the 18 cases already registered this year in that country.

A strongly protected species due to the risk of extinction, the population of the Iberian lynx in our country is expected to be around 300 specimens.
