Macbook Pro & Co. with M4: Several announcements from October 28th

“Week full of announcements”

Apple is expected to introduce new Macbooks, iMacs and Mac Mini with M4 chips this month. There is now an official update.

The Senior Vice President Greg Joswiak looks forward to a promising week: “Mac () your calendars! We have an exciting week of announcements ahead, starting on Monday morning. Stay tuned…“.

From Monday, October 28th, the first new devices in the Mac series will probably be presented. The pun at the beginning leaves no doubt about this. Several announcements are expected, with the first hands-on reports possibly from mid-week.

Update from October 23rd:

Der Apple-Leaker Mark Gurman claims that Apple should send out invitations for October 30, 2024. These go to content creators and traditional media professionals to presumably test upcoming products. According to Gurman, this is not a performance event; An announcement should be made in advance – via video stream and / or a simple press release, as was recently the case with the new iPad mini. It will be exciting. We’ll keep you updated.

Original message from October 22nd:

The new M4 processors from Apple celebrated their debut in the iPad Pro last May – now Macbook Pros, the iMac and the Mac Mini will also receive an update with the improved chip. At least there are increasing signs that Apple is planning a product presentation in October, as the industry portal says Digitimes reported that an increased number of component deliveries has been observed in recent weeks and months.

As in previous years, Apple is likely to present the M4 chip in three variants. In addition to the standard chip, these are expressed in a Pro and Max version, which were installed in Macbooks in the previous generation. Specific changes outside of the switch to TSMC’s more power-efficient 3 nm manufacturing process are not yet known.

When it comes to RAM, Apple is finally planning to increase the RAM: it should be at least 16 instead of 8 GB in the upcoming Macbooks and iMacs. The background to this lies in the suite of AI functions called “Apple Intelligence”, which is being introduced into Apple devices with macOS Sequoia and requires correspondingly more RAM.

In addition, Apple could switch to the new Wi-Fi 7 standard at least for individual Macbook models. The company is already taking a similar approach with the iPhone 16, where only the Pro models can access the faster network standard. With Wi-Fi 7, the maximum speed is approximately five times higher, while at the same time ensuring better signal stability.

Regardless of the number of products that Apple will introduce, it is almost certain that all new devices will rely on USB-C: By the end of 2024, the company must meet EU requirements that require the connection to be standard.
