It is expected that you will be able to drive on the biggest roads on Bornholm during Sunday, after blowing snow and drifting have made it difficult to move out into the traffic.
This is according to Lene Kristensen, who is on duty at the winter service in Bornholm’s Regional Municipality.
– We started cleaning at 03 this morning on the main roads. We are in the process of trying to get it all cleaned up, but it will probably be a while before you can drive out again, she says.
Between 60 and 80 vehicles are clearing the snow, Lene Kristensen says.
Denmark’s Meteorological Institute (DMI) issued a warning on Saturday evening about the risk of blowing snow.
Local snowfall may occur only on Sunday.
The blowing of snow has meant that the Bornholm Police advise against all unnecessary driving.
And it is not the snow, but the wind that affects the traffic, says Lene Kristensen.
– It blows so much, and it creates drift. That’s what the problem is.
– We expect the wind to die down during the day, and tonight it looks like it will be almost windless. It helps a little, she says.
Only main roads and major roads that are necessary for traffic to flow will be cleared.
– They will at least be passable in one track, so you can squeeze through, says Lene Kristensen.
Smaller roads are not cleared at the weekend.
– You only start doing something about them on Monday morning, so there may well be challenges associated with them when people start driving to work and school, says Lene Kristensen.
The snow removal vehicles will start clearing the minor roads on Monday between 04 and 05.
Almost the entire country will have freezing weather on Sunday morning both in the air and on the roads, according to DMI’s website.
– Although the air is quite dry, frost has formed on the roads in many places. There is a risk of icy roads in places, writes DMI.
