Majority of companies are not yet using AI, but adoption is highest among medium-sized companies

57 percent of Dutch companies have not (yet) integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into their business operations. Smaller companies in particular are lagging behind in the adoption of this technology, with 62 percent indicating that they do not use AI. This is evident from a study by Telecompaper.

Mid-sized companies (50-249 employees) are leading the use of AI, especially in the areas of marketing and data analytics. Only 49 percent of these companies indicate that they do not use AI.

When AI is implemented, marketing (15%) and data analytics/business intelligence (13%) are the most common applications, especially in small and medium-sized businesses. In contrast, large companies focus their AI efforts primarily on data analytics (21%), operational processes (14%), and customer service (13%), but are less likely to use AI for marketing (8%).

The findings suggest that AI adoption, while slow, is being driven by the need for improved marketing and data-based insights, with different sectors prioritizing different applications of the technology. The use of AI in marketing is relatively higher among the 18-30 age group (22%), compared to older employees in the 30-50 and 50+ age groups, where only 11% report using AI for marketing.
