Making a completely bezel-less iPhone is a tougher task than Apple thought. It will arrive in a few years

The Californian brand Apple presents several new iPhones every year, which traditionally bring a few interesting innovations. Be it software or hardware changes. The latest intervention in the design is the Camera Control button in the iPhone 16 model line. In the development workshops, however, Apple is working on more changes. One of them should be a bezel-less display.

Finally a bezel-less iPhone?

In recent years, Apple has practically always succeeded in reducing the bezel around the display of its iPhone. For example, the 2020 iPhone 12 Pro (Max) models have a 3.47 mm bezel. This year’s iPhone 16 Pro Max even boasts a figure of 1.15 mm. So the shift is really noticeable. Nevertheless, Apple is still not satisfied and is developing a display with zero bezels.

According to initial reports, the manufacturer from Cupertino wanted to introduce a phone with such a display as early as next year. New news from the web The Elec however, they claim that Apple still does not have a high-quality display and will not introduce a bezel-less iPhone until 2027 at the earliest.

Apple doesn’t want to curve the display

On the display with zero bezels, Apple works with the best manufacturers of display panels. That is, with the South Korean brands LG and Samsung. But not a single company has yet been able to develop a display that Apple would be satisfied with. A certain solution could allegedly be the curvature of the display, which is used relatively widely by Chinese manufacturers. Even in this case, the display is not absolutely frameless, but optically the frame is indeed noticeably narrower.

But Apple apparently does not want to use such a display at any cost. The mentioned source states that Apple has clear goals for the upcoming iPhones, which are connected with the angular design style, in which only a flat display fits, which the American giant does not want to give up.

What are the obstacles?

Developing a display with zero bezels is not an easy task. Nowadays, the technology is not at such a level to produce a quality display without frames. Another obstacle can be the durability of such a display, which is probably not at the level of today’s display panels. Subsequently, Apple certainly does not want to use lower-quality displays in phones than it currently uses, and we will have to wait a little longer for a full-fledged iPhone with zero bezels.
