Malala will visit her home country of Pakistan

Pakistani women’s rights activist Malala Yousafzai is returning to Pakistan to attend a summit on girls’ education.

This is according to the organization Malala Fund according to AFP.

Yousafzai became world famous in 2012 when she was the victim of a shooting attack carried out by the Taliban in Pakistan. She was flown to a hospital in Pakistan and later in England, where she underwent several operations.

– I am excited to meet Muslim leaders from all over the world at a conference that is critical of education for girls, writes Malala Yousafzai in a post on the social media X.

The meeting will be held in the capital Islamabad and will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Yousafzai will participate on Sunday, it appears.

– On Sunday I will talk about the protection of girls’ rights to go to school and why the Taliban must be held accountable for its crimes against Afghan women and girls, writes Malala Yousafzai on X.

Since the attack in 2012, she has visited her homeland a handful of times, writes AFP.

Subsequently, she has also gone to school in England, just as she has studied at the British University of Oxford.

Malala Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 – as a 17-year-old – for working for all children’s right to education. She shared the award with Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi.

In 2021, the Taliban took power again in Afghanistan, where the movement has introduced a number of laws that discriminate against women.

Shortly before the New Year, the Taliban decided to close all non-governmental organizations – NGOs – that employ women in Afghanistan.

In addition, the Taliban government also issued a decree prohibiting windows in residential properties from overlooking areas used by women.
