Trouble again in Serbian agriculture! Malinari farmers did not receive a satisfactory offer from the government again, and livestock farmers and dairy farmers are talking about new protests. Let’s find out what it’s all about!
Malinari got the upper hand again
At the meeting held in Arilje, raspberry producers and cold storers failed to reach an agreement on the purchase price of raspberries. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livija Pavićević, emphasized the need for a strategic solution to this problem.
Pavićević stated that a working group has been formed that will help prevent similar situations in the future, stressing that the problems have existed for decades and from both sides. The working group will enable more effective problem solving without exhausting meetings.
The President of the Association of Raspberry Producers “Vilamet”, Mileta Pilčević, assessed that the offered price of 250-260 dinars per kilogram of the buyer is not acceptable, stressing that at that price raspberries are already being bought in the field, which endangers production. Pilčević added that this is the second year in a row with unsatisfactory profit, announcing the convening of the Assembly of the Association in order to decide on further steps and participation in the work of the working group formed by the ministry.
Radoje Cvetić, a cooler from Arilje, said that the price of raspberries must rise and stabilize. According to him, the price should range between 350 and 400 dinars per kilogram, with annual fluctuations of 10%. Cvetić emphasized that price stabilization can solve many problems, including the loss of world markets. He also pointed out that the state should subsidize producers in the coming period.
Cattle farmers dissatisfied with the agreement
The Association of Milk Producers and Cattle Breeders of Šumadija and Pomoravlja expressed dissatisfaction with the signed agreement between seven agricultural associations and the Government of Serbia, announcing protests, as reported by local media from Čačak. The association was invited to a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Aleksandar Martinović, but they declined the invitation because the Prime Minister of Serbia, Miloš Vučević, and the President of the Assembly, Ana Brnabić, would not attend.
According to the agreement with the Government of Serbia, farmers should receive 17,000 dinars for certified seeds and 60,000 dinars per heifer, which the association considers insufficient. They emphasize that due to problems with land registration, cadastre and contracts, many farmers will not be able to use these subsidies. Also, the association asked to solve the problems with the cadastre. They state that it is necessary to provide compensation for fuel costs, which is not covered by the agreement.
The association reminds that cattle breeders asked for 100,000 dinars per heifer in order to improve the cattle stock. But they believe that this will not be possible with the offered amount. Although increases in benefits for produced fattening animals, breeding sows, suckling cows, as well as subsidies for fattened beef, sheep, goats, kids and chickens have been approved, the association believes that this is not enough to deal with slaughterhouse prices and the import lobby that uses favorable market arrangements. for uncontrolled import of meat and processed products.
The association also states that the promise of diesel without excise duty per head, as well as finding a support model for vegetable and fruit growers, has not been fulfilled. The association points out that the person who signed the agreement with the representatives of the Government of Serbia is not their legal representative, and they consider the agreement null and void. They plan to prove the nullity of the agreement through the court, according to the press release of the Association of Milk Producers and Cattle Breeders of Šumadija and Pomoravlja.
