MamaSOS phone line is looking for new counselors!

MamaSOS, the first telephone line for emotional support for mothers, invited interested women of all ages to call and volunteer in the work of this line. A three-day training for new counselors will be held on the weekend of November 2 and 3 and on Saturday November 11 in Belgrade.

The MamaSOS telephone line for support of mothers started working at the end of 2021 and is available to mothers from all over Serbia every weekday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. By calling the line, moms have the opportunity to talk to a counselor who will listen to them, understand them and with whom they can share how they feel, as well as their concerns, doubts and problems.

Until now, several hundred mothers from all over the country have trusted the counselors on the MamaSOS telephone line. Over 70 female volunteer counselors of different profiles and ages selflessly dedicated their time to the MamaSOS telephone line. Counselors are trained to talk on the line and to provide mothers with emotional support, compassion and understanding, which, according to research by the Center for Mothers, is one of the greatest needs of mothers in Serbia.

“We will help you build the skills needed to work on the line, it’s yours to grow and develop.” The skills you will acquire during the training, such as active listening, conducting conversations, empathy and many others, will be useful to you in other spheres of life. If you recognized yourself in the previous ranks and want to be a part of the team for supporting mothers, send your application,” the invitation reads.

Volunteers are needed for telephone conversations with mothers from the headquarters of the MamaSOS telephone line, which is located in the premises in the center of Belgrade, given to them by the municipality of Stari Grad. Each volunteer who is chosen will undergo training where she will acquire the skills necessary to volunteer on the hotline, as well as to provide assistance to any mother in crisis.

Selected female volunteers will be invited to a full-day training session lasting three days (one weekend and one Saturday), which will be held on November 2, 11.3. and 9.11. Attendance at all three days of training is mandatory for everyone who registers. After completing the training, the counselors are provided with professional supervision as needed.

The MamaSOS line is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and volunteers call during those times from the office in the premises of the municipality of Stari Grad. Volunteers are expected to commit 12 hours a month, or 3 hours a week.
