Barcelona’s Guàrdia Urbana arrested a man last night for assaulting a trans woman with a crutch during the Pride celebrations. The victim is in hospital due to the blows she received.
The events took place at half past two in the morning on the public road, near number 119 La Rambla, hours before the Pride demonstration begins this afternoon in the Catalan capital to vindicate the LGTBI community.
The man began to hit the transsexual woman with a crutch, while hurling all kinds of insults against the LGBT community, even at the time of his arrest by local police officers, as well as at the people who reproached him for his action.
The man has been arrested on charges of hate crimes and minor injuries. The Guàrdia Urbana has accompanied the victim to a hospital, where he remains hospitalised with various injuries.
Following the news of the attack, the mayor of the city, Jaume Collboni, who is scheduled to attend the Pride demonstration in Barcelona this afternoon, has condemned the attack.
“Condemnation and rejection of an LGBTIphobic attack on a trans woman that took place this morning during Pride. All my support and warmth to the victim of these events,” the mayor said. Collboni asked “not to take a single step back” in the defense of the rights of people in the collective,
