Man has died after explosions at Brazil’s Supreme Court

Brazil’s Supreme Court was evacuated on Wednesday evening after two explosions took place outside the building.

According to Reuters, the Supreme Court announced this in a statement late Wednesday evening Danish time.

At the same time, a man has been found dead near the court, according to Brazilian police and eyewitnesses at the scene.

The first explosion occurred in a parking lot located near the Supreme Court. Brazilian TV said it came from the trunk of a parked car.

The Supreme Court is located in the country’s capital, Brasilia.

20 seconds later, the second explosion rang out, but it is not clear exactly where in the area it took place.

The police subsequently investigated the area to ensure that there were no more explosives.

The country’s attorney general calls the explosions an attack on social media, writes Reuters. There are no reports of who is behind it.

In a square opposite the court, the police have also found the body of a man. However, the exact circumstances of his death are unclear.

Judges and other employees have left the building as a result of the evacuation. Near the Supreme Court is Brazil’s presidential palace, which President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had left just minutes before the explosions.

The Brazilian media UOL writes that a man with explosives was seen at the Supreme Court on Wednesday evening, but it is not clear where the media got the information from.
