Manchester City confirm serious injury to star player

Manchester City will be without the Spanish star player Rodri for an extended period.

City confirmed on its website that the midfielder has suffered ligament damage in his right knee. It happened at the start of Sunday’s top-flight match against Arsenal, which ended 2-2.

Rodri has been in Spain in recent days to consult specialists, and the final prognosis is still awaited.

“The evaluation is still ongoing with a view to determining the final extent of the damage and expected prognosis,” reads Manchester City’s website.

English media learned earlier this week that Rodri may be out for the rest of the season.

If so, it will be a very hard blow for City, who are chasing a fifth championship in a row.

Statistically speaking, City very rarely lose with Rodri on the field, and manager Pep Guardiola also praises the Spaniard to the skies.

“Rodri is irreplaceable”, says Guardiola after Tuesday’s cup victory over Watford.

“When a team cannot play with the best midfielder in the world for a long, long time, it is of course a big blow, but my duty is to find a solution so that we remain competitive as we have been for many years”.

Rodri was one of the big names when Spain won the European Championship this summer, and he is considered among the candidates to be honored with the Ballon d’Or.
