In a study conducted by CIRP, we learn that people who acquired an iPhone in June 2024 made a significant change from Android to iOS. We could then say that this is a good sign for the manufacturer with the apple, but the reality seems quite different.
As you know, there are two mobile ecosystems: Android and iOS. Ecosystems with different qualities and defects, but which never cease, in the manner of the console war between PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, to arouse passions.
In a new study by the Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP)we seem to have an idea of the trend among users.
A record transition
iOS and Android are now a story of user experience preference. Each of these ecosystems has its own arguments, but overall, they offer the same functions.
To analyze trends, one parameter then becomes interesting: the switching of users from one environment to another.
This measure allows to analyze the trends and the influence that these ecosystems can have. This is the point analyzed by the CIRP, indicating that in the second quarter of the year 2024, 17% of iPhone buyers were previously Android users. The teams reveal that this is the most significant score from a transition point of view since 2022 when this number peaked at 14%. In June 2023, this figure represented only 10%. It is not surprising that Apple temporarily overtook Samsung at the beginning of the year. So how can we explain this change?
In previous study of CIRPthe organization indicated that Android users could be attracted by the specificities of iOS, such as the quality of the camera, the range of accessories available or even a user interface that is easier to use.
Cost is also a consideration, with users realizing that the price tag for a new or old iPhone may not be as high as they’d expect for a similarly featured Android phone.
One of the key points of this previous study is the ecosystem in which you operate. CIRP indicates that users also tend to equip themselves according to the devices of their family and friends.
Apple losing momentum
The CIRP does not want to be effusive about this analysis and qualifies its remarks. At first glance, one might think that iOS is gaining ground on Android, but this is not the case. Apple’s strategy is to increase its user base, but above all to make it change its range from year to year by offering new services and new equipment. Here, we learn that sales of the iPhone 15 would not live up to the expectations of the Cupertino firm.
A result supported by the CIRP indicating that the iPhone 15 sold less over the same period than its predecessor.
In its study, the organization tells us that the switch for Android users would have been made to older models such as the iPhone 14, 13 or SE, the latter having a much better quality-price ratio.
