Over time, more and more drivers have appeared on the Internet who have encountered various problems with the “automatic” / robotic gearbox, mounted on some Dacia models. Either the car won’t go into gear, or the box disengages, or it decalibrates. Here’s how it can be repaired and why the errors must be deleted, if you have problems with a Dacia robotic box.
In 2016, Dacia launched the first model in the history of the brand with a gearbox that automatically changes gears.
Specifically, this was an Easy-R robotic gearbox, with 5 speeds on the TCe 90 HP engine and 6 speeds on the 1.5 dCI 90 HP engine. In fact, we can say that it was a hybrid between automatic and manual transmission.
The Easy-R robotic gearbox was an electromagnetically actuated system, i.e. controlled by a computer. Basically, the box ensured the disengagement, gear change and clutch actuation in place of the driver.
But, almost immediately after entering the market, the first problems appeared.
Dacia “automatic”/robotized gearbox problems
On the forums dedicated to the various Dacia models, more and more discussions began to appear regarding problems with the Dacia robotic automatic gearbox.
„In the morning, when leaving the place, in automatic mode, sometimes the engine trembles when I release the brake slightly. Also, in automatic mode, it still jerks in reverse“, said the owner of a Sandero, after 6 months of driving a Stepway Easy R, on gasoline, with a 0.9 Tce engine and almost 3,500 km traveled.
„ When the engine is still cold, it is more difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. When I take my foot off the brake and gently accelerate again, the car sometimes “comes in the nose”, jerks“, said a man on the forum dedicated to Sandero owners, after 6 months of driving a Stepway Easy R, on gasoline, with a 0.9 Tce engine and almost 3,500 km traveled.
„When I start everything is ok. When I put the lever in D and release the brake, it jerks and the 3 dashes appear“, another driver wrote.
„I also have a Logan 2 Prestige with Easy-R from 2017, with about 18,000 km, semi-automatic. Some time ago, while driving, the multi-functional warning light came on”, said another Dacia owner with a robotic gearbox.
„Hi, I have the same problem with the same car model, how did you solve it?”, replied another.
Over time, thousands of such comments have been collected. Some have experienced oil loss from the box, others have miscalibrated. In some situations, when changing gears, the engagement was accompanied by loud noises, crackling, as if one were to shift into gear without stepping on the clutch.
The most common problems with an Easy-R robotic box from Dacia
The main problems mentioned by drivers with this robotic automatic gearbox fitted to Dacia were:
- tremors when changing gears;
- shifting gears too slowly;
- error on board;
- the inability to engage or disengage the gears;
- exiting the speed of the car;
- loud noises when changing gears;
- oil loss.
So the issues are diverse, so it cannot be said that there is a standard defect. These problems can occur due to driving style, road conditions, assembly method, weather conditions or computer errors.
So, depending on the situation, fixing the problem can be simpler or more complicated.
How to repair the robotic automatic gearbox
From 2021, Dacia replaced the robotic box with a CVT transmission, which fitted the Logan and Sandero models.
However, those who had already bought their models equipped with the Easy-R system and were experiencing problems, looked for various solutions.
„They re-calibrated, now to see if it’s fixed or not. They also looked at plugs, sensors, everything related to the gearbox and nothing seems damaged“, explained the owner of a Logan 2 who was faced with abnormal gear changes or even the inability to engage the gearbox.
„Software update, changer changed, software update specially made at Renault. The last one seemed to work for a while. It didn’t last long and I got the error again”, said another Logan owner, who had to, in the end, change the clutch box entirely,
„I found these faults (error nos) on the box: DTC078072 and DTC081171. Gear coupling drive mechanism and clutch wear. After deleting them, I did a street drive and the error did not appear again”, is the solution found by a driver to computer errors.
Therefore, there is no universal solution to solve the problems with the Easy-R automatic gearbox from Dacia.
How much does it cost you to repair the Easy-R robotic box from Dacia
As told by those who have experienced problems with these robotic boxes, the cost of repair varies.
If only a deletion of the errors was required, the “intervention” cost less than 100 lei. But, if it was necessary to resoft or recalibrate the box, then the cost of the repair exceeded 500 lei.
And in the most unpleasant cases, in which the Easy-R automatic gearbox was completely replaced, the total cost exceeded 3,500 lei, including labor.
These types of boxes are no longer manufactured, so most Easy-R boxes available for sale are second-hand. For example, such a robotic box for Dacia is currently sold for over 3,500 lei.
