Many students injured themselves while participating in the challenge on TikTok

Kosovo Police Gjakova Region Spokesperson Sheremet Elezaj announced to the AA correspondent that 19 students injured themselves in different periods of time, based on reports made between 7-9 October.

Noting that an investigation has been launched on the subject for the crime of inciting suicide, Elezaj stated that the investigation will continue and the number of injured may increase.

ALL ARE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

Gjakova Municipality Education Director Eranda Kumnova Bachi said in a statement to the local press that the students in question were studying in secondary school.

Kumnova Bachi noted that after the families’ notice, they checked the students’ phones and found photos of them injuring their hands with cutting tools due to a challenge on the Chinese social media platform TikTok.

THEIR HEALTH IS GOOD

Stating that the health of the students is good, Kumnova Bachi emphasized that they continue to check up on other students who harm themselves due to challenges.

On the other hand, the Kosovo government decided in June to ban the installation, use and operation of the Chinese social media platform TikTok in state institutions in order to “increase cyber security”.
