This Saturday, the President of the Republic described Portugal as a country that stands out in the global context for being well, politically stable, with correct accounts and that will grow 2%, in a speech in Quito, Ecuador.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa spoke in front of a hundred Portuguese and Portuguese descendants, in a hotel in Quito, the last point of his program in Ecuador, after having participated in the 29th Ibero-American Summit, in Cuenca, between Thursday and Friday.
“I want to tell you that Portugal is doing well, in a world that is not doing well, in a Europe with complications, in a Latin America with complications”, he declared.
The head of state added that “Portugal is politically stable, Portugal has the right state accounts, Portugal is growing this year, and will grow by 2%”.
“Portugal is continuing to grow in tourism, it has just broken the record for tourism revenue. Portugal continues to grow in investment. But we want more, we want more. And with you we go further”, he concluded, addressing Portuguese emigrants and Portuguese descendants.
After this meeting, which was also attended by the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, the President of the Republic headed to the airport to travel back to Portugal, where he will arrive on Sunday.
In the macroeconomic scenario included in the Budget proposal for 2025, the PSD/CDS-PP Government predicts that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow 1.8% in 2024 and 2.1% in 2025 and that the inflation rate will decrease to 2 .6% this year and 2.3% next year.
As for the balance between income and expenses, the executive intends to achieve budget surpluses of 0.4% this year and 0.3% next year. Regarding the public debt ratio, the government estimates its reduction to 95.9% of GDP in 2024 and to 93.3% in 2025.
At this time, the discussion continues on the State Budget for 2025. The closing and final global vote are scheduled for November 29th.
