Marci Fucsovics feels the weight of becoming an Olympian

The classic of the MOL Team likes Roland Garros as a venue, he does not yet know if he will have the opportunity to support other Hungarian athletes, nor does he know if he will move into the Olympic village. However, he is certain that he is facing an important milestone in his sports career.

“Every time it’s an honor to play as a member of the national team, an Olympic performance is a huge milestone in the life of a Hungarian athlete. I feel its weight and appreciate that it’s been given to me for the second time. The Olympic atmosphere can’t be compared to anything,” he said. It is great news that two Hungarian players are so good in the men’s world rankings that they can be there at the Olympic Games in Paris, and this also means that Marci Fucsovics and Fábi Marozsán can start in doubles.

The injury is healing nicely

Marci Fucsovics was a bit upset when we found out that he was struggling with a wrist injury, but he reassured us that this time there would be no problem, he would definitely be ready to play by the start of the Olympics.

The rehabilitation with my wrist is progressing well, the rest and the professional help I received from my staff seem to give me reason for confidence and I can return to my normal schedule more and more. “In addition to the fitness training, I can train again, almost at a normal pace, on the field. It seems that we have found a solution together that will relieve my wrist better so that this will not be a recurring problem in the future. I am very grateful to the specialists, especially Dr. Péter Somogyi for help and to my coaches too!”

Both Hungarian top players can be successful primarily as individuals, but this does not mean that the pair will be dismissed from the outset. We asked Marci whether she has the opportunity to train with Fábi, whether they can prepare for the doubles together.

At NEK, we regularly have the opportunity to train together with Fábi. “We don’t yet know how exactly our daily schedule will be at the Olympic venue. If joint training will fit into our schedule, we will definitely prepare specifically for the doubles. This gives us a very good opportunity to start in doubles as well, I would like to if it goes well,” said the MOL Team’s classic.

Return to Roland Garros

Last season, Marci went to at least one (but there are three) rounds in every Grand Slam tournament, but this year she is unlucky with the draw, usually the draw throws a big fish in front of her in the first round. It was the same at Roland Garros, where his opponent was Sztefanosz Tsicipas, and although the Hungarian top player had a set point in the excellent first game, he eventually lost in three sets. Now he returns to the legendary clay court.

“Of course, I like the location of the Garros. It is also a special positive that the Olympic tournament will be held at a Grand Slam venue and not on temporarily constructed courts. When it was possible to do so in London, unfortunately I was not an Olympian there yet, and now I can experience it for the first time. It is not the most fortunate that the field is now returning to clay, but the conditions will undoubtedly be professional.

The colorful whirlwind of the Olympics can be a great experience for all athletes, we asked Marci if she will move into the Olympic village, or because of the chaotic traffic conditions, she will decide otherwise. “The goal is to make transportation between the training and competition venues as simple as possible, we don’t yet know exactly which will be the best option for this,” said Marci, who also touched on whether he will be a sports tourist if the situation is brings, i.e. does he go to competitions of Hungarian interest.

“As the draw and schedule will allow, I will try to support the others! I’m curious, it will be good to experience mutual support as well! As far as I know, we will be at the same venue as the boxers, an interesting pairing,” he said with a laugh.

I will be satisfied when I can play good matches and win the always given point and match. I don’t want to get into fortune telling. “The organization, the atmosphere, everything is completely different from an ATP tournament, which makes it more unpredictable in my opinion,” said the MOL Team’s top player regarding his goals.
