Marini against Razgatlioglu’s arrival at Honda

Luka Marini, currently in the first year of his two-year contract with Repsol Honda, emphasized that he gets along very well with Đoan Miro. As the Italian said, Mir is “a nice person and I hope he stays in the team” for 2025.

Despite another frustrating season, 2020 world champion Mir insists his priority is to stay with the factory Honda team, although a contract extension is yet to be announced.

But if Mir and Honda fail to reach an agreement, Marini thinks he would be better off signing a rider with proven MotoGP experience rather than chasing WSBK star Toprak Razgatlioglu.

Razgatlioglu impressed the motorcycle world in his debut season with BMW, reigniting rumors of a move to MotoGP.

With his manager Kenan Sofuoglu often making it clear that it will only be with a factory MotoGP team, Honda will be the last remaining chance for 2025 as the European teams are fully booked and Alex Rins is expected to remain at Yamaha.

But Sofuoglu played down the chances of Razgatlioglu moving to MotoGP for next season and Marini believes that Honda, which is currently at the bottom of the manufacturers’ standings, would be better served by an experienced rider if Mir leaves.

“I say no!”said Marini in an interview, when asked about Razgatlioglu and Honda. “If a driver has to come, it would be interesting to have someone from Aprilia or KTM, who would bring a little more knowledge.”

“I could be an example (of that) coming from Ducati. Having said that, if a new rider comes in, he has to be technical, able to share information and give feedback in a proper way that is understood.”

Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira are among the experienced KTM/Aprilia riders yet to be confirmed for 2025, so there is speculation that one of the two could be Miro’s replacement.
