The directors of Marvel Studios’ blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are in talks to return.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the Russo brothers are negotiating with Marvel Studios to direct the next two Avengers films.
According to THR’s sources, negotiations between Joe and Anthony Russo and the studio are only in the early stages. If they return as directors, the upcoming Avengers movies will be their Fifth and Sixth Marvel movies.
The brothers previously directed 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame blockbusters for Marvel.
Avengers 5 premieres on May 1, 2026 and Avenger: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.
After Endgame, the brothers have directed two decent horror movies for Netflix, especially The Gray Man, made in 2022 with a budget of more than 200 million dollars, was slammed by critics. The 2021 film Cherry starring Tom Holland wasn’t much better either:
Review | The Gray Man from the Avengers directors is a dead boring Netflix action romp
Review | There’s nothing good about the Cherry movie other than Tom Holland – the Avengers directors are completely lost without special effects
