Mass arrests of members of the Baygara criminal organization

The police in Turkey launched a wave of arrests against members of the Baygara criminal organization, resulting in 286 people, including 9 women, being brought before the prosecutor.

The operation, codenamed Kuyu-37, was carried out in 16 provinces, centered on Adana and under the coordination of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Adana and the General Directorate of Security.

Judicial authorities identified 83 different criminal acts. The arrests were made in Adana, Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Osmaniye, Mersin, Niğde, Bursa, Antalya, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, Kırklareli, Batman, Mardin, Muş and Sakarya.

Those arrested are accused of forming a criminal organization, with the intention of committing a crime, intentional homicide, attempted intentional homicide, intentional injury, aggravated robbery, drug production and trade, arms trade, violation of Law 6136, aggravated fraud, theft, criminal undertaking and invasion of privacy.

During the operations, 43 pistols, 11 rifles, 5 AK-47 automatic weapons, 2 automatic weapons, 4 hand grenades, various amounts of drugs, large amounts of foreign currency and thousands of Turkish Liras were seized, including a lot of digital equipment and radios. In addition, 8 houses, 2 estates, 1 car, 4 motorcycles and 19 bank accounts were confiscated.

Of those arrested, 69 were released with restrictive conditions, while the prosecution proposed to release 10 of those arrested without conditions. The Turkish media notes that “the leader of the organization, Ramazan Baygara, is detained abroad.”
