Several people were killed today in a home for the elderly in Daruvar in Slavonia, Croatia, mojportal.hr was the first to report. Unofficially, an armed man entered the home in Mažuranićeva Street and started shooting. Five people died on the spot and five were injured, three of them seriously. The shooter then fled on foot, but the police soon caught him in one of the city’s cafes.

According to unofficial information from Jutraje list, the attacker was born in 1973, a retired military policeman and a veteran of the war of independence. He entered the home with a gun and killed his mother and several other residents and employees. As mentioned, five people lost their lives, one person is in critical condition, and two people are out of danger.

After the shooting spree, the suspect sat in the bar and ordered a drink, placing the gun on a chair. According to Jutraje list, two wounded employees of the home, one with an eye injury, the other with a bullet in the chest, took refuge in a nearby store, from where they called the police.

The police were informed about the shooting a few minutes after 10 o’clock

The Bjelovar-Bilogor police department announced that they were informed about the incident at 10:10 a.m. The suspect is under the supervision of the police, and an intensive investigation of all circumstances is underway on the spot under the leadership of the Bjelovar District Prosecutor’s Office.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on the X network, among other things, he wrote that he was horrified by the incident, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, and wished the injured a speedy recovery. “I expect that the competent authorities will find out all the circumstances of the horrific crime,” he emphasized and announced that the interior minister was on his way to Daruvar Davor Bozinović and the Labor Minister Marin Piletićwho will also visit the wounded in the hospital in Pakrac.
