Massive driving license fraud in this region

In the Rhône, several dozen driving licenses were invalidated following massive fraud against the Highway Code.

Getting your driving test is usually not always an easy task.

A large-scale driving license fraud

Indeed, it is expensive and still takes quite a bit of time, since you have to pass the theory test and then the practical driving test. Which takes several months, at least. And that is obviously if everything goes well, of course. So, some people do not want to wait and take the risk of failing, and fraud and other scams of all kinds are commonplace. Moreover, a few weeks ago, a vast network of fraud in the theoretical driving test was dismantled in Isère, which then led to the cancellation of dozens of permits driving of Lyon residents, as explained by a survey conducted by Le Figaro. And the least we can say is that the figures are particularly impressive. Indeed, between 2022 and 2023, no fewer than 80 licenses were revoked, and nearly 100 theoretical tests invalidated by the authorities. In addition, around 300 legal proceedings are currently underway in this case.

Many abuses

The cause of this widespread fraud? The arrival of private examination centres for taking the highway code. Aimed at facilitating and speeding up the process, these have in fact unintentionally opened the door to structured networks of fraudsters. These use social networks in particular to attract candidates who want to obtain their licence without difficulty, for a fee. In an attempt to counter this wave of fraudthe authorities have implemented increased surveillance measures. One technique is to be wary of candidates who obtain a perfect score of 40/40 on their first attempt. Aware of this strategy, fraudsters are adapting their methods: now, they report a first failure before passing the exam. For Maxime Bourgeois, national secretary of the Unsa-Saneer inspectors’ union, “As long as it is private, there will be fraud.” Thus, the trend is likely to continue, despite attempts to combat this practice.

The solution could be renationalisation, but the government does not seem to be considering it.
