Miss Finland Matilda Wirtavuori aspires to be Tampere of the Year. She is Miss Finland from Tampere and an entrepreneur and a Master of Economics who was crowned the most beautiful of the continent in the Miss Universum competition.
Matilda raised the issue of all young women suffering from eating disorders and mental health problems.
Matilda herself says this about her participation in the competition.
– The nomination is an incredible honor. Tampere and being from Tampere is a very big part of my identity: I loved growing up, doing hobbies and getting an education in Tampere, and this city has made many things possible for me. I have always been proudly from Manse. Even though the road brought me to Helsinki now and maybe later to the world, Tampere will always be my home, he writes on social media.

Open about his eating disorder background
Matilda has openly talked about her eating disorder, which previously made life difficult. By speaking publicly about his background, he has at the same time helped others suffering from the same symptoms.
Matilda was a show dancer when she was younger, in which she reaped success with her team up to the World Championship level.
Success came at a price, leading to severe self-esteem issues.
The body began to gain shape and weight, and in addition, Matilda was already taller than the others in middle school.
– It started to turn into the fact that I considered myself large. I thought that the woman must be my grandmother and graceful, Matilda says in Hymy magazine, printed in October.
The pursuit of perfection was reflected in her appearance, which eventually drove Matilda to an eating disorder at the age of 17.
He describes the time as harsh, a time controlled by exercise and food that ruled life.
– I isolated myself and closed myself off from everything. I was in a vulnerable state with my own body image, Matilda recalls.
The truth was revealed by the school nurse. He was referred to the eating disorder unit in Tampere for treatment. It allowed access to therapy and talks with a nutritionist and physiotherapist, which helped Matilda start to get back on her feet and at a normal weight.
