Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko joked about the name of the first deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Vladimir Zelensky. The official attended the government hour in the Northern Fleet with the Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko.
The incident occurred when Matvienko invited Zelensky to a discussion. “It’s good that you’re the first, but you’re not very lucky with your surname, to be honest,” noted the Speaker of the Federation Council, advising the Russian official “not to mention loudly” such a surname.
The namesake of the Ukrainian president only smiled and spread his hands in response.
Russian Vladimir Zelensky has held his post since 2021 and has been working in the government since the 2000s.
At the end of September, Matvienko was re-elected chairman of the Federation Council, and last spring she received the title of Hero of Labor.
Previously, Matvienko called on deputies and officials to abandon “bad” foreign words, and the president of the Chamber of Lawyers to change the high-profile title of the position.
