Today 17 November is the 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, founder president of Awami Muslim League. On this day in 1976, he died while undergoing treatment at the then PG Hospital (now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University) in Dhaka. Later he was put to rest at the pleasure of Tangail.
On this occasion, detailed programs have been taken to the satisfaction of Dhaka and Tangail. On the occasion of the day, President Md. Sahabuddin gave the message.
Maulana Bhasani was involved in politics from his youth. He was the president of the then Bengali-Assam Muslim League for a long time. Throughout his life, he has fought for the welfare of the common people, including the abolition of the line system, the movement against the oppression of the landlords. The historic Kagmari Conference held at Kagmari in 1957 on his initiative turned the tide in the politics of Bangladesh.
Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani has continuously struggled for the rights and interests of the disenfranchised, neglected and hardworking people throughout his life. During the national crisis, he encouraged the people to build the Durbar movement by the side of the people. In his long career, he has worked selflessly for the country and the people. Maulana Bhasani always prioritized national interest over personal interest. Although he was close to power, he was never possessed by the lust of power. In personal life he was innocent, unpretentious and very simple. His simple life is a reflection of his deep love for the country and its people. Maulana Bhasani has struggled throughout his life for the formation of a progressive, democratic, non-communal Bangladesh without exploitation and deprivation.
Maulana Bhasani was born on December 12, 1880 in Dhangara village of Sirajganj. Although he was born in Sirajganj, he spent most of his life in Tangail. He was involved in politics from his youth.
On the occasion of Maulana Bhasani’s death anniversary, various political and social organizations including Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology, Bhasani Foundation have taken various programs in Tangail town.

After that Bhasani’s family, political parties, various educational institutions, socio-cultural organizations and Maulana Bhasani’s muridans, devotees, followers will offer wreaths and pray at the shrine. Also on the occasion of the day, there will be discussions, milad and doa mahfil in the mosque, food will be served to the orphans and the needy. Secretary General of Bhasani Foundation Mahmudul Haque Sanu said, on the occasion of Maulana Bhasani’s death anniversary, Santose Bhasani Foundation has organized a 7-day Bhasani Mela till November (11-17). Discussion meetings and cultural programs are being organized daily in the open stage of the fair.
District BNP General Secretary Advocate Farhad Iqbal said, on the occasion of Maulana Bhasani’s death anniversary, a discussion meeting has been organized at the premises of Bhasani’s shrine at 11 am on Sunday at the initiative of District BNP. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to attend the event as the chief guest. Also, national leaders including BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Publicity Secretary Sultan Salauddin Tuku will be present as special guests.
