Max is one step closer to banning password sharing and doesn’t rule out further price increases –

The streaming platform of Warner Bros. Discovery is also starting on the same path that Netflix and Disney+ have already taken before it.

Netflix’s move to prevent multiple households from using the same account wasn’t entirely risk-free, but in the end, everything turned out for the best for the streaming service. The number of subscribers would not have decreased, but even increased, many of the former poty passengers became guest users, further increasing the company’s income.

Emboldened by this, Disney+ recently also prohibited password sharing, while, like its competitor, it offered the possibility to add an extra user outside the household in exchange for a small surcharge.

Max (under its maiden name HBO Max) is not here yet, but Warner Bros. Discovery has already made it clear that it is also moving in the direction of banning. Fortunately for those who do not live in the same household, yet share the same account, the service provider does not want to spoil the house from door to door, but proceeds step by step, and in the first round will only gently remind customers of the noble idea of joint burden-bearing, in Hungarian, it would like the non registered or members living in other households would not be exempt from the payment obligation.

This campaign (for lack of a better name) will start at the end of the year and will continue in 2025, and will be followed by further, as yet unspecified, steps. Let there be no doubt about the end result, the platform that is home to Game of Thrones, House of Dragons, The Penguin and other exclusive series will eventually play by the same rules as Netflix and Disney+.

Gunnar Wiedenfels, the CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, did not rule out another price hike in June due to the premium nature of the service. He sees that they still have room to maneuver in terms of the monthly fee. You probably have a good estimate of the situation, as despite the recent price increase, the number of subscribers increased by 7.2 million to 110.5 million in the third quarter.
