Max Verstappen has left the Formula 1 world championship seen for sentencing. The champion of the last three titles will be so again in 2024 after an extraordinary comeback in which from seventeenth position he won the race with a little help from the red flag, yes, but also with an infernal pace and being the only one that he could overtake on the track.
While Verstappen has shone, Lando Norris has been shipwrecked in the rain. From a bad start to several mistakes that have caused him to lose positions, Norris says goodbye to the world championship and now he only has to defend the McLaren constructors’ championship, who will have to fight until the last corner against Ferrari.
Carlos Sainz accident and Alonso’s bad career
Almost five months later, Max Verstappen has won a Formula 1 race again. But not just any one. The Dutch driver has done what is probably his best race since he competed in the world championshiprecovering 16 positions to win with a 20-second advantage in the rain of Interlagos.
Verstappen gained many places in the opening laps, but then got stuck in a group of four drivers as Norris and George Russell escaped. However, a timely red flag caused by an accident by Franco Colapinto It allowed Verstappen to regain positions by changing tires with the race stopped.
Same strategy that has made Alpine complete its best race in years. The two French cars have been on the podium at Interlagos, with Esteban Ocon in second position and Pierre Gasly in third. Alpine goes from ninth to sixth position in the world championship, making a million-dollar overtake on Williams, Haas and Racing Bulls.
Lando Norris definitely says goodbye to the World Cup. As is traditional, he lost pole in the first meters, which doomed his entire race, stuck behind Russell in the early stages. After the red flag he went off the track on both restarts to finish in a poor sixth position.
Oscar Piastri has not added much with his eighth position either, but McLaren still increases its advantage over Ferrari thanks to the accident of Carlos Sainz, who definitely did not have his day at Interlagos. Charles Leclerc finished fifth, but Ferrari remains 36 points behind McLaren in the world cup.

Red Bull resists at 49 points, but it is impossible for them to fight for the title with a Sergio Pérez who finished outside the points againeleventh, and after another scuffle with Liam Lawson, who finished ahead, ninth. In between, a totally unknown Lewis Hamilton in the rain of Interlagos.
Fernando Alonso was fourteenthwith back problems due to the rebounds of the Aston Martin and after going off the track. Even so, he lasted longer than his teammate, a Lance Stroll who spun directly on the formation lap and tried to get back on the track in such a ridiculous way that he got stuck in the dirt.
Fourth place for Russell, who could very well have won the race without the red flag but in the end was not even able to pass Gasly for the podium. Points also for Yuki Tsunoda, seventh, in a race in which there has even been a black flagthat of Nico Hülkenberg for returning to the track after receiving help from the stewards.
